A new poem for any “non-doms” out there. In our family that means anyone who is not my eldest brother Dom, who coincidentally is domiciled overseas on account of him not living in this country, as opposed to those who live here but pretend they don’t.<\/p>\n
Tax Evadance<\/p>\n
Lord Evelyn Dance of Anywhere,
\nYou’re neither here and rarely there.
\nYour property portfolio’s healthy,
\nA house in Mayfair; two in Chelsea.<\/p>\n
And overseas you are the owner
\nOf villas close to Barcelona,
\nA vineyard somewhere near Bordeaux,
\nAnd in Provence a small chateau.<\/p>\n
Your yacht is moored in Monaco,
\nThough truthfully you seldom go,
\n(For business keeps you here at home),
\nDespite your wealth and right to roam.<\/p>\n
You mix with movers and with shakers,
\nInvite them to your Highland acres,
\nFor shooting deer and grouse and pheasant.
\nYour life is tolerably pleasant.<\/p>\n
But I don’t envy you one bit,
\n(As you don’t envy me my wit),
\nFor it must drive you fearful wild,
\nNot knowing where you’re domiciled.<\/p>\n
Your vagueness as to your location,
\nMinimizes your taxation.
\nThe taxman seems to lack the will to
